An unintended consequence of AI

AI is the buzzword du jour because it’s doing all kinds of wonderful things. Tasks like taking notes at a meeting or proofreading a blog post can be handled by AI. As a result, we’re free to concentrate on higher-level things like strategy or, in an ideal world, gives us leisure time to spend on things like family.

That’s the promise of AI. However, there is a flip side.

Trust is the bedrock of a good relationship. Without it relationships spoil quickly. I once spent $5000 to have my car fixed. The mechanic was confused why I was upset when I didn’t even make it out of the parking lot. The trust was gone.

After watching a video on Instagram or TikTok have you ever found yourself asking “is this real?” I’m guessing you probably have. You probably didn’t lose $5000 being fooled by an AI video however you still lost something valuable – trust.

One place where AI has not been beneficial to people and businesses is in building trust. If anything it’s made it more difficult to secure.

As people and businesses continue to integrate AI into their operations, in equal amounts or more, they’ll need to find ways to secure trust with an increasingly skeptical public.
